Catherine began her term as Auditor General for Wales on 21 July 2026.

She has over 30 years experience in a variety of public service roles in areas from space to criminal justice and border operations with a focus on leading frontline delivery, directing major business change and technology programmes, providing policy advice and leading change. She has worked in central government, abroad in the Middle East and Africa and in regional government. On leaving the senior civil service she came to work in Wales as Chief Executive of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority.

Her first degree is in English, she has a Masters in European Politics and a Postgraduate diploma in Public Finance and Leadership. She is a graduate of the Infrastructure and Projects Authority Project Leadership Programme; a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Chartered Public Finance Accountant and fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

Catherine has also undertaken a range of voluntary and non-executive roles including as a non-executive director at the Satellite Applications Catapult and the National Parks Partnership, a lay member of Council at the University of Bath and as a school governor.

The Auditor General for Wales is the statutory external auditor of most of the Welsh public sector and is also the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the Wales Audit Office (although not an employee).
