Audit quality

Our commitment to high audit quality underpins all our work and decision making.

Our audit quality arrangements accord with the Financial Reporting Council’s (FRC’s) International Standard on Quality Management 1 (effective 15 December 2022).

Our customary approach to performance audit complies with the quality standards issued by the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).

We have established policies and procedures to achieve and continuously monitor audit quality. The 2024 Audit Quality Report sets out:

  • Our commitment to quality;
  • The three lines of assurance model; and
  • The outcome of our quality monitoring arrangements.

Who audits us?

In order to provide assurance to taxpayers, we are subject to independent scrutiny in a number of ways.

Our accounts are audited by an independent firm appointed by the Welsh Parliament.

Each year, we present an estimate of the income and expenses of Audit Wales for the next financial year to the Welsh Parliament for approval.

The latest estimate of income and expenditure, along with the Auditor General's annual report and accounts, are available within Our Plans and Accounts
