Bethan Jones
After 36 years of working within the public sector, continuously striving for improvement and innovation, Bethan is thrilled and honoured to be joining the Board of Wales Audit Office.
Having worked closely with staff from Audit Wales over the years she has always been impressed with their insight and the professionalism of the organisation. She brings to the Board senior strategic and operational experience from across the Welsh Public Sector in particular health and local government, together with an understanding of the practicalities of organisational collaboration and partnerships.
A native of North Wales on graduation from Loughborough University in 1986 Bethan joined the Welsh NHS in Cardiff as a graduate management trainee. She then moved on to work in Manchester before returning home to North Wales to work in 1991, crossing over to local government in 2001 as Director of Social Services and Housing at Conwy County Borough Council. Since this time, she has held a variety of corporate director and deputy chief executive roles across Conwy, Denbighshire and Ynys Mon councils with wide ranging portfolios, but always with an emphasis on performance, governance and improvement. She returned to the NHS in 2015 as Area Director for the Central Area of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, a role from which she retired three years ago.
She is married to a passionate shore fisherman, who is also retired from the NHS. They have a daughter, son and three grandchildren, the youngest of which was born just a few weeks ago. She loves to travel, dog walk and is an avid football fan. Her ambition is to perfect home-made pizza while enjoying the stunning views from her garden of the sun setting over the sea across Ynys Mon and Puffin Island.
