Catherine Mealing-Jones today formally takes up office as Auditor General for Wales, succeeding Adrian Crompton, who has served in the role since 2018.
Catherine Mealing-Jones was nominated by the Senedd following a recruitment process led by the Senedd’s Finance Committee and subsequently appointed by His Majesty The King. She takes up the role on 21 July 2026.
Catherine joins Audit Wales from Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority, where she served as Chief Executive. She brings extensive leadership experience in public service, having held senior roles leading policy, programmes and major transformation across a range of sectors, including space, criminal justice and border operations.
Welcoming her to the role, Dr Ian Rees, Chair of the Wales Audit Office Board, said:
"I am delighted to welcome Catherine as she formally begins her role as Auditor General for Wales.
"Catherine brings a wealth of leadership experience from across the public sector and a strong commitment to public service. I know she will provide authoritative and independent leadership for Audit Wales as we continue our vital work supporting accountability, transparency and improvement across Welsh public services.
"On behalf of the Board, I would also like to pay tribute to Adrian Crompton for his outstanding contribution and dedicated service as Auditor General over the past eight years."
