Video Transcript (Word)

Scrutiny has a key role in self-regulation and promoting improvement, efficiencies, and collaboration across public services. This is increasingly the case in responding to the challenge of the global financial situation whilst continuously seeking to improve services. But is scrutiny having an impact? Are you getting value for money? And how do you know?

The conference included a key note address by both the Minister for Local Government and Government Business, Lesley Griffiths and the Auditor General for Wales, Huw Vaughan Thomas. Delegates also heard from a range of expert speakers.

Delegates left with:

  • a greater understanding of the changing role and the potential for scrutiny;
  • a clearer focus on where improvements in scrutiny arrangements can be made; and
  • ideas for how to drive change and innovation through sharing experiences and ideas.

The conference was aimed at the following:

  • Chief Executives
  • Leaders
  • Scrutiny Members and Champions
  • Audit Committee Chairs
  • Heads of Democratic Services,
  • Heads of Policy and Scrutiny Officers
