National Library of Wales – A Review of Governance

5 Dec 2016 - 12:01am

External correspondence to the Auditor General during 2014 and 2015 reflected concerns about aspects of the Library’s leadership and governance, including tensions in staff relations and publicity about specific concerns relating to the outcome of an employment tribunal, which found that two members of staff were dismissed unfairly.

As a result, the Auditor General indicated in 2015 to the Library, Welsh Government and the Public Accounts Committee that he would undertake a review of the Library’s governance arrangements.

We found that, following a difficult period between 2013 and 2015, the Library has improved important aspects of its governance and management arrangements, but that further work remains necessary to place the Library on a sustainable footing.
