Voltage Optimisation Units - Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council

1 Sep 2011 - 12:00am

The County Council installed twenty two voltage optimisation units in its larger sites:

  • Offices
  • Leisure Centres
  • Schools
  • Care Homes

The purpose ofthese units is to even out the voltage across a given site, resulting in more efficient use of equipment.

Benefits derived from this scheme include the following:

  • Financial savings in energy consumption
  • Lower carbon emissions (between 10 and 15 per cent)
  • Extended life of equipment

Funding for a number ofthe installations was made by SALIX and the capital cost is some £50,000. This outlay is expected to be recovered after three to five years.
